In March, Dr. Victoria Adekoya CEO, nxtCRO, had the privilege of joining the Sunu Reew Medical Mission (SRMM) in Gambia—a journey that was equal parts heartwarming and transformative.
Along with the SRMM founder, Victoria Lissong Richards-Ohwotu and medical team from the USA, they are on a mission to bridge the healthcare gap in the Gambia.
At the heart of the trip was the 2025 SRMM X EFSTH Lectures at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul, where Dr. Olabisi led a thought-provoking session on Exploring Clinical Trials in Africa.
The discussion centered on ethical research, data integrity, and the immense potential Africa has to lead in global clinical research. It was a powerful reminder of the work still to be done—and the incredible talent ready to drive it forward.
But beyond the lecture hall, the week unfolded in ways that reminded us why this work matters so much. From heartfelt conversations with medical students about mental wellness to conducting health screenings for diabetes and hypertension, every moment was a step toward building healthier communities.
On the cultural and awards night, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) delivered a special film night, where stories of health and resilience took center stage. And, of course, there was the Valentine’s Day cruise along the Gambian River—a beautiful reminder that joy and connection are just as important as the work we do.
This mission reinforced what we at nxtCRO have always believed: Africa is not just a participant in the global healthcare landscape— we are a leader in the making.
We are already looking forward to returning in January 2026 to continue this work and the relationships born.
